Resorts, terminals, ports under tight watch in Davao

DAVAO CITY — There is no room for complacency in Davao Region to ensure a safe observance of the Holy Week as the Police Regional Office (PRO 11) placed beach resorts, bus terminals, markets, ports and seaports under tight watch.

Until 12 midnight Wednesday, PRO 11 director Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan made random checks at beach resorts on the Island Garden City of Samal even talking to visitors to report suspicious persons. He particularly inspected Paradise Beach Resort and Sunset Beach.

Gaerlan, who also assigned field supervisors in the provinces to check on the police personnel and places where people converged like churches, said his main concern is the safety and convenience of the public.

On Wednesday night, Gaerlan asked all road marshals to keep blinkers on patrol cars on the road. All night duty personnel were also ordered to be out of the station and stay on the streets.

In bus terminals, Gaerlan ensured that police personnel, including the K9 unit, were in their post. He appreciated the presence of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Highway Patrol Group to check on the roadworthiness of the provincial buses.

PRO 11 has put Davao Region on full alert status and sent out the maximum deployment of personnel.

So far, PRO 11 spokesperson Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz said there was no report of untoward incident as of Thursday afternoon.

“It is generally peaceful and no untoward or significant incidents in Davao,” Driz said.

The Davao City Police Office has also provided maximum deployment in churches in coordination with the Task Force Davao and the City Transport and Traffic Management Office.

Police personnel will be deployed during the major church activities, especially the procession on Good Friday, Visita Iglesia, and Easter Sunday. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
