Response ops for monsoon-hit areas ongoing

MANILA — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), through its Regional DRRM Councils, continues to facilitate response operations for “habagat”-affected communities.

To date, a total of 342,669 families/1,420,802 persons from 954 barangays in Regions 1, 3, Calabarzon, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and National Capital Region (NCR) were affected by heavy rains caused by the above-mentioned weather system.

Displaced families summed up to 29,910 familes/135,059 persons.

Relief operations is ongoing in 10,243 displaced families inside 282 evacuation centers.

However, there are 38,606 families who sought shelter with their relatives and are being assisted by the government.

The NDRRM Operations Center remains to be on red alert to continuously monitor the effects of “habagat” in most parts of Luzon.

Likewise, the Response Cluster remains activated to ensure that the basic needs and specific concerns of affected communities are being addressed.

The Office of Civil Defense has augmented rice supply and hygiene kits to Regions 3, Calabarzon and Mimaropa.

A total of PHP35,039,855.07 worth of food and non-food items from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Local Government Units has been provided for Regions 1, 3, Calabarzon, CAR, and NCR.

It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has instructed the NDRRMC to ensure immediate delivery of assistance in affected areas.

Likewise, concerned government agencies were prompted to prepare sufficient resources in such emergency situations.

The public is advised to monitor weather situation and take the necessary precautions while the southwest monsoon continues to prevail and affect the western section of Luzon. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
