Retired SC Justice Justo Torres Jr. dies at 90

MANILA — Retired Associate Justice Justo P. Torres Jr. died on Tuesday (December 26) at the age of 90, the Supreme Court Public Information Office (PIO) announced.

“The SC En Banc mourns the passing of its 138th Associate Justice, Hon. Justo P. Torres, who served on the Court from March 11, 1996 to November 1, 1997,” the SC PIO posted on its Twitter account.

The SC PIO announced a memorial service for Torres on Thursday (December 28), 2:30 p.m. at the SC Session Hall in Manila.

Torres was appointed by former president Fidel Ramos to the Supreme Court on March 1996. He retired on November 1997 after reaching the retirement age of 70.

Prior to his appointment to the SC, Torres served as an Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals.

He also served as Philippine Judicial Academy Vice Chancellor after retiring as Supreme Court magistrate. (PNA)
