MORONG, Bataan — The provincial office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on Thursday reported the rescue of a wounded dolphin near the shore of a beach resort here.

Mila Ramirez, wildlife officer, said the adult dolphin is of the Risso’s species, male and more than six feet long.

She said the dolphin suffered wounds in the tail that was apparently caused by a fishing hook and also in the body which were initially seen as shark bites.

“It was taken to the Ocean Adventure in the Subic Bay Freeport for treatment,” she said.

The wounded dolphin was seen by guests of Playa La Caleta in Morong town, this province.

Ramirez said a lifeguard tried to bring it back to the sea but the mammal returned to the shore, seemingly tired.

Members of the Philippine Coast Guard, police and other agencies assisted the DENR in the rescue operation.
