Road sections closed in Nueva Ecija due to ‘Ompong’

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija—Some sections of national roads in this province were declared closed to traffic due to floodwaters triggered by typhoon Ompong on Saturday.

Abraham Pascua, spokesperson of the Nueva Ecija Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), said the portion of the provincial road linking the towns of Bongabon and Rizal was impassable to all types of vehicles due to at least two feet of water before Saturday noon.

Some half meter flood, meanwhile, rendered the Maharlika Road in Barangay Puncan, Carranglan town, impassable to light vehicles.

He said that Canilo road in Pantabangan-Nueva Vizcaya road was also not passable to all types of vehicles.

Pascua urged residents of low lying areas to be vigilant of possible increase of water levels in the next few hours.

“Kung nakikita po natin na tumataas ang tubig ay lumikas na kaagad (If we see that the waters are rising, evacuate immediately),” he said.

Meanwhile, the local governments of Cabanatuan City, and Jaen town have distributed relief packs to displaced constituents. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
