Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGEN. Nicolas Torre III stressed the importance of physical fitness for cops to perform their duties effectively, urging the police force to treat regular physical workout as part of their lifestyle and not as an obligation.
Torre made the remarks in a speech delivered by PNP Deputy Chief for Administration PLTGEN. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. during the launch of the “Pulisteniks” fitness program at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Tuesday.
“Let us not treat this as an obligation. Gawin po nating bahagi ng ating lifestyle bilang pulis ang pagiging malusog. Kasi kapag malusog ang katawan, malinaw ang isipan, matatag ang loob, at mabilis ang kilos,” the PNP Chief said.
Torre added that the Pulisteniks initiative puts emphasis on the notion: “A healthy body is a healthy mind”—given the physical and mental demands faced by police officers in their line of work.
“A strong and healthy PNP is a dependable PNP. And a dependable PNP is what our country needs,” he noted.
To be conducted every Tuesday and Thursday across all PNP units, the Pulisteniks program is part of the PNP’s broader internal wellness campaign, reinforcing the value of physical readiness as a foundation for operational excellence and responsive policing.
The PNP previously clarified that they have not hired or authorized any fitness instructor to lead a weight loss program for the entire organization following an activity led by fitness vlogger Rendon Labrador at Camp Crame on June 19. (with report from Ryan Lesigues / PTV News)
