Robredo launches ‘Istorya ng Pag-asa’ in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY — Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday launched in this city a program seeking to encourage Ilonggos to share stories of hope to inspire and move people.

Dubbed ‘Istorya ng Pag-asa,’ the program is one of the core advocacy programs of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) in partnership with local government units, schools and other organizations in the country.

The OVP partnered with the Assumption Iloilo for the program in this city.
In her speech, Robredo said that the program serves as “answer to the darkness enveloping the country” today with the manifestation of social media particularly Facebook that “polarized” people especially the youth exposed to social media.

“It is an attempt to change the conversation,” she said,

“Rather than arguing on Facebook, we discouraged it. It is better to put stories of hope,” she added.

During the launching, Robredo talked about Ilonggos who have inspiring stories such as as that of Honorato Espinosa, more famous as ‘TyoTatoy’, owner of the ‘Tatoy’s Manokan and Seafood’ restaurant at Villa, Arevalo district.

Tyo Tatoy started small with just a table or two. His perseverance made the business grow and he now owns one of the famous restaurants in the metropolis, offering distinct menu and variety of food.

Robredo encouraged the Ilonggos to be part of the advocacy campaign by sharing more stories of hope.

The “Istorya ng Pag-asa” campaign was first launched by Robredo in Cagayan de Oro City. It will also be launched in key cities in the country like Baguio, Naga, Legazpi, Sorsogon, Bacolod, Cebu, Dumaguete and Palawan. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
