MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday reported a “robust” turnout of registrants in the National Capital Region (NCR) on the first day of the voter’s registration.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez is hoping that such turnout would be trend of the whole registration activity.
“We are confident that today’s turnout is indicative of the Filipino people’s enthusiasm to participate in the electoral process, and that it will be an upward trend from here on out,” he said in a statement.
The poll body official noted that long lines were observed in some areas in Metro Manila.
“Long queues were observed in most NCR field offices even before the registration officially opened at 8 a.m.,” Jimenez added.
The system of continuing registration started on July 2, and will run until Sept. 29, 2018.
Offices are open Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Comelec is looking to register some 1 to 2 million new registrants during the three-month registration period. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
