Rotational brownouts expected in NCR, other provinces

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) advised of possible rotating brownouts this afternoon (May 31) as the Luzon Grid was placed on red alert between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The NGCP said the scheduled brownouts may be cancelled depending on certain conditions, such as the decline in demand.

Manual load dropping (MLD) may be implemented in the following areas:

From 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • INEC (parts of Ilocos Norte)
  • LUELCO (parts of La Union)
  • ZAMECO I and ZAMECO II (parts of Zambales)
  • QUEZELCO I (parts of Quezon)
  • CANORECO (parts of Camarines Norte)
  • APEC (parts of Albay)
  • MERALCO (parts of Metro Manila)

A red alert status is raised when there is insufficient power supply in the grid. (NGCP)/AG-jlo
