Samsung upgrades S pen, battery, memory in Note 9

MANILA — Do you often feel shy asking someone to take another photo of you? You plan to post this in your Instagram account but you hesitate to tell a stranger what to do for this shot.

Samsung Note 9’s S Pen might help you.

Officially launched Tuesday afternoon, the Galaxy Note 9 features an S Pen that doubles as a remote control. One just needs to click it to instantly take photos. For multitaskers, this can also be used as clicker to control slides in Powerpoint presentations.

Browse photos and other contents, listen to music by using the S Pen that connects wirelessly to the device within a 10-meter radius. No need to switch on and off the bluetooth each time one uses the S Pen, as this connects automatically to the device.

The S Pen will automatically charge once placed inside the device. Samsung boasts that it will only take less than a minute to have this S Pen fully charged.

Speaking of charging, another upgrade in the Note 9 is its 4,000 mAh battery. This means it could last up to almost a day, according to Ivan Pua, Product Marketing head for IT and Mobile. Note 9’s predecessor, the Note 8, has a 3,300 mAh capacity.

Apart from the S Pen and battery, Samsung had also upgraded the memory capacity for the Note 9.

“It has a 512 GB memory variant. If you add up a 512 GB memory card, then that’s equivalent to 1 terabyte, which is larger than what most laptops in the market today can provide,” Pua told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

At present, the Note 9 has the biggest screen (6.4″ AMOLED display).

While there have been upgrades in the Note 9, it still offers features that one can find in other Samsung mobile devices.

An example is the super slow-mo feature that one can find in S9,which was launched just last March.

The super slow-mo is 960 frames per second, or 32 times slower than what a regular phone could do, according to Pua. This is suitable for creating cinematic effects on videos.

Like the S9, Note 9’s camera can also be used in low-light settings, even without using a flash. The camera still carries the auto scene recognition, and automatically optimizes the photo depending on the conditions of the subject.

For music and lovers, the Note 9 provides a surround-sound experience through the speaker powered by Dolby Atmos. But budget phones have been offering these — vibrant display and surround-sound speaker — since few years back.

Meanwhile, Pua said Samsung always look for innovation.

He said the future products from Samsung will be based on what the consumers tell them and what the company thinks could excite the market. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
