‘Samuel’ weakens, nears Iloilo

MANILA — Tropical Depression “Samuel” has slightly weakened and is now over the Visayan Sea, posing threat to the province of Iloilo.

In its 8 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Samuel” was last spotted 90 kilometers east southeast of Roxas City, Capiz.

“Samuel” has maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is moving west at 30 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 (TCWS) has been hoisted over Masbate including Ticao Island, Romblon, southern Oriental Mindoro, southern Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan including Cuyo Island and Calamian Group of Islands, Biliran, Leyte, northern Cebu, northern Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Antique.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is also affecting Northern Luzon.

The Visayas, Mimaropa and Masbate, including Ticao Island will experience rains and gusty winds.

Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the rest of Bicol region, CARAGA, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to “Samuel”.

Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to localized thunderstorms.

Northern, Central and eastern Luzon seaboards will create very strong winds with rough to very rough coastal waters.

Residents are warned not to venture out into the seas or use small or light sea craft for their safety.

Meanwhile, a tropical storm with international name “Man-Yi” was spotted at 2,950 km east of Mindanao, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

It has maximum winds of 75 kph near the center, with gustiness of up to 90 kph and is moving west northwest at 20 kph.

Temperature in Metro Manila ranges from 25-30 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao City 22- 31 degrees Celsius; Baguio City 14-22 degrees Celsius; Angeles City 24-31 degrees Celsius; Lipa City 25-31 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu 24-28 degrees Celsius, and Metro Davao 24-33 degrees Celsius.
