Taguigeño couples exchanged vows on Feb. 26 in a socially-distanced mass wedding at the scenic Mercado Del Lago in Barangay Lower Bicutan.
The al fresco ceremonies were officiated by Mayor Lino Cayetano, in a continuation of a program regularly held quarterly by the Civil Registry Office pre-pandemic.
“I want to congratulate the couples who said their ‘I dos’ this afternoon in the beautiful venue overlooking Laguna Bay,” said Mayor Lino. “I’m pretty sure maraming napa-Sana All, but other than being a romantic gathering, it is also a historic one.”
He noted that the program was a part of Taguig City’s campaign to make residents realize that there are safe ways to do things in the new normal.
Only 30 couples were invited to tie the knot during the Kasalang Bayan to easily manage social distancing and observe other safety protocols. The organizers also opted to hold the event outdoors to lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
The couples and other attendees were required to wear masks.
As Taguig awaits the supply of vaccines, the city continues to have the lowest active cases per 100,000 population and lowest case fatality rate. To further this, it has launched the #RoadToZero campaign, which encourages citizens to abide by the protocols so that the city can reach zero active cases before mass vaccinations occur.
