Tacloban City, LEYTE – Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go turned over a brand new ambulance to the Malasakit Center of the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) in Tacloban City, Leyte on Friday (June 29).

Go said the donation of the new ambulance aims to provide free service and emergency medical assistance to less fortunate patients in Leyte and nearby provinces, in line with the government’s commitment to improve health services in poverty-stricken regions.

This ambulance is really for Region 8, those who live in far-flung areas who find it hard to travel to the hospital where they need to travel two to three hours, again this is free for Region 8),” he said.

The presidential assistant, who lamented the inaccessibility of medical facilities in far-flung areas in the country, said he “welcome friends who want to help” and extend medical assistance to poor communities.

Last month, Go turned over some PHP15 million to EVRMC for the first month of operation of the Malasakit Center, a one stop shop composed of government offices extending medical aid to poor patients.

The turnover of the medical equipment came at the sideline of President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit to Camp Ruperto Kangleon in Palo, Leyte , where he attended the wake of the six police personnel killed in action in Samar. (PNA)
