TAGBILARAN CITY — Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go launched the Malasakit Center in Bohol inside the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) compound here Friday afternoon.

Go said the Malasakit Center in Tagbilaran is the 11th of its kind put up throughout the country and aims to help indigent patients settle their hospital bills and medical treatment costs throught the assistance of various government agencies.

After the Tagbilaran launch, Go said they will inaugurate two more Malasakit Centers in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Butuan.

During the unveiling of the marker, Go handed over a PHP5-million check as seed funding for the Center to GCGMH deputy chief Dr. Nonaluz Pizzaras.

Go was accompanied by Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino and movie-TV actor Philip Salvador during the inauguration of the center.

Indigent patients in Bohol no longer need to go to Cebu or Dumaguete City to avail of the services of the Malasakit Center.

Go said poor patients can get their treatment at the Gallares hospital and need not go far to look for help in paying their bills and other medical needs since the Malasakit Center is just within the GCGMH compound with ready funding.

Bohol government officials are also planning to put up a Malasakit Center at the Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Hospital in Ubay town, about three hours north of Tagbilaran City.

Meanwhile, Go declined to elaborate on his political plans with only three working days left in the filing of certificates of candidacy. He said he is still contemplating whether or not to join the senatorial derby. (Dave Albarado/PNA)
