SAP Go vows to bolster women empowerment under Duterte’s watch

MANILA – Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has urged women to make big impact in community development, assuring them that the Duterte administration remains committed to empowering women.

“Keep up your role because you can do big thing for your community,” Go said in a media interview after gracing the Laguna Women’s Brigade Summit and Serbisyong Tama Kababaihan Officer’s Assembly in Binan, Laguna on Monday.

Go assured that President Rodrigo Duterte remains committed to women empowerment and gender equality even when the President was still mayor of Davao City.

“The President has high respect for women. When he was still mayor, the President pushed many measures for women’s welfare and protection,” Go said.

The Magna Carta for women, he said, is still being implemented under the President.

“This may maintain the country’s spot as one of the 10 countries in the world when it comes to gender equality,” Go added.

Go said Duterte’s 3-point campaign against illegal drugs, corruption and criminality aims to protect every Filipino citizen including women and children.

He also defended the government’s campaign against “tambays” (loiterers), calling it a timely measure to curb crimes on the streets.

“If they are not doing any illegal activities, they have nothing to fear. The police is just doing their job. As long as human rights are not violated, let’s support our police,” he said.

The top aide of the President also said he will talk to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año to address overcrowded city jails throughout the country.

“The local government units can help a lot in improving our city jails. We will talk to DILG Secretary on what kind of improvement that is needed,” he said. (Jelly Musico/PNA)
