BACOLOD CITY — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here will conduct satellite voter registration in nine rural barangays of Bacolod from July 21 to September 15.
City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said they have scheduled the first barangay list up at Barangay Estefania this coming Saturday.
Comelec-Bacolod will set up a satellite office at the barangay gymnasium from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Our purpose is to come closer to the people so they can register without spending much for transportation,” the election official said on Thursday.
Aside from accepting new registrants, the election personnel will also serve those seeking transfer and reactivation of registration, and those applying for correction of entries.
The other eight villages, where the succeeding satellite voter registrations will be held, are Granada, Felisa, Handumanan, Bata, Taculing, Vista Alegre, Alangilan and Cabug.
Majarucon-Sia said the nine barangays were selected since these are far from the city center, where the Comelec office is situated. The Comelec-Bacolod holds office beside the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports Center across the public plaza on San Juan Street.
The voter registration period started on July 2 and will end on September 29.
Election offices are open from Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in all cities and municipalities.
Majarucon-Sia, however, said their office will be closed on weekends.
According to the Comelec, first-time voter registrants only need to present a valid ID, such as a driver’s license, company or school ID, to prove that they are submitting a correct residential address.
Those who would like to reactivate their registration should inform the Office of the Election Officer that they failed to vote during the past two elections, while those looking to transfer their registration must show proof that they have transferred to another address, such as valid IDs bearing their new addresses or proof of billing.
Those eyeing correction of entries must bring proof that the entry needing correction is wrong or outdated, such as a valid ID showing the correct spelling of their names or marriage certificate showing their new legal name or civil status. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
