SC okays creation of 2 more RTC branches for Baguio

BAGUIO CITY — The Supreme Court (SC) en banc has approved the creation of two branches of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) here to decongest existing courts and guarantee the speedy disposition of cases.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan relayed Thursday that the High Court approved the creation in its en banc session on August 8, upon the recommendation of the Court Administrator.

As the mayor welcomed the High Court’s action, he said it will definitely facilitate the resolution of cases and decongest the existing courts, guaranteeing the speedy disposition of justice.

He expressed optimism that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) will promptly act on the necessary funding for the newly created positions and the maintenance and operating expenses of newly created courts.

The SC also approved the creation of the positions of two RTC Judges, two Clerks of Court, two Legal Researchers, two Interpreters, eight Stenographers, two Sheriffs, four Clerks, two Process Servers and two Utility Workers to be assigned to the new courts.

It also directed the amendment of all court records to conform to the creation of the two additional RTC Branches.

At present, there are eight RTC branches operating in Baguio.

Aside from approving the creation of the two courts, the SC will also conduct an assessment and evaluation of the Baguio Justice Hall building in preparation for its proposed rehabilitation and upgrading to ensure that the newly created RTC branches will be accommodated once they are operational.
