Scattered rain showers to prevail over parts of PH

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – Some areas in the country will experience scattered rain showers caused by the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the shear line, the weather bureau said on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

“The LPA is far and is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It has a slim chance of entering PAR, but its trough is currently affecting the southeastern portion of Mindanao,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over the Davao region, Surigao del Sur, Sarangani, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

The same weather condition will prevail over the Bicol region, Mimaropa, Aklan, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar, due to the shear line.

“Be alert against possible flooding and landslides,” Aurelio said.

Aurelio said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have fair weather, with isolated rains caused by the northeast monsoon.

The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon and the eastern section of the Visayas and Mindanao.

Because of the northeast monsoon, strong winds will be experienced over the northern seaboard of northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Bicol. Fishing boats and other small sea vessels are advised not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) – bny
