Sea turbulence still likely in Luzon

MANILA, July 29 — Rough to very rough seas and waves up to 4.5 meters high are possible off Northern, Central and Southern Luzon this weekend.

Expected to affect those areas and fan such sea turbulence are strong to gale-force winds associated with the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ that typhoon ‘Gorio’ (international name ‘Nesat’) continues enhancing, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its Gale Warning 4 released Saturday afternoon (July 29).

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into sea,” said PAGASA.

PAGASA also alerted larger sea vessels against expected waves in the areas.

According to PAGASA, the expected sea turbulence will likely occur off Northern and Central Luzon’s western seaboard covering Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, western coast of Ilocos Norte, Zambales and Bataan provinces.

Monsoon rains are possible in such areas, PAGASA said.

The expected sea turbulence is also possible in Southern Luzon’s western seaboard covering Metro Manila, Cavite, Occidental Mindoro, western coast of Batangas and Palawan, PAGASA continued.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may occcur there as well, noted PAGASA.

PAGASA also expects sea turbulence off Northern Luzon’s northern and eastern seaboards covering northern coasts of Cagayan and Ilocos Norte, eastern coast of Cagayan and Isabela.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are likely there, PAGASA said.

In its 24-hour forecast released Saturday afternoon, PAGASA said ‘habagat’ is affecting Northern and Central Luzon’s western sections.

PAGASA located ‘Gorio’ at 335 km north of Batanes province’s capital Basco municipality as of 3 p.m. Saturday.

‘Gorio’ then packed maximum sustained winds of 145 kph near its center and gustiness of up to 180 kph.

According to PAGASA, ‘Gorio’ will likely move northwestwards at 19 kph. (CJT/PNA)
