The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Thursday, Feb. 2, that it is continuing its search and rescue (SAR) operation for the missing engine cadet who fell from a motor vessel off Calatagan waters.

The PCG said the 22-year-old victim “fell overboard while a motor vessel was underway from Zamboanga City going to Manila” on Jan. 28.

He is a resident of Misamis Occidental and is part of the crew of the cargo vessel MV ALESON CON CARRIER 14.

The PCG said a SAR operation on January 29 by the PCG Sub-Station Calatagan and BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) was suspended due to inclement weather.

This was followed by another operation the following day and an aerial search by the PCG Aviation force. Both failed to find the missing cader.

“The PCG Sub-Station Calatagan advised barangay officials and nearby residents to be on the lookout and report to the nearest Coast Guard unit if the victim is sighted for immediate assistance,” the PCG said. – gb
