Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año has submitted his recommendations for the next Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief.
With current PNP Chief Police General Camilo Cascolan set to retire on November 10, DILG Sec. Año has confirmed 3 police senior officials have been included in the shortlist of candidates for the PNP leadership for President Rodrigo R. Duterte to choose from.
However, the DILG Chief declined to give the names and ranks of his recommended officials.
Under the law, all police officials with the rank of police brigadier general or 1-star general and higher are qualified to lead the PNP. If seniority would be the basis, members of the PNP Command Group are all possible candidates. This includes PNP Deputy Chief for Administration PLt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, PNP Deputy Chief for Operations PLt. Gen. Cesar Binag and Directorial Staff Chief PMGen. Joselito Vera Cruz.
Meanwhile, Gen. Cascolan and President Duterte have not discussed the possibility of extending the former’s term which lasted only for more than two months.
PNP Chief Cascolan has not named any official for his successor, but he trusts in his “dream team” and believes that the next PNP Chief will be able to fulfill his duties wells. – Report from Bea Bernardo
