Security forces continue operating checkpoints

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will continue operating the established checkpoints as part of the government’s strides against Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, the PNP and AFP will remain in designated checkpoints at the entry and exit points of Metro Manila.

The guidelines for the checkpoints are being finalized as stated by the PNP.

As initially implemented, individuals with IDs and proper documents are allowed to pass through.

The PNP and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that they will assist health workers and personnel stuck at checkpoints and have no means of transportation.

According to DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, the security forces will provide transportation as the suspension of public transportation is included in the guidelines of the enhanced community quarantine.

The PNP-HPG has a directive to arrest Public Utility Vehicle drivers who will violate the guidelines.

PNP Spokesperson Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac stressed that the government is stern in implementing the directives and guidelines against COVID-19. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the government. – Report from Bea Bernardo
