The Senate has approved the Bayanihan to Recover as One or the “Bayanihan 2” bill on second reading Wednesday, which seeks to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the country.

Committee on Finance Chairman Sonny Angara said Senate Bill 1564 builds on the gains made from Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act in enabling the government to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and to assist the millions of Filipinos in coping with the hardships brought about by the disease.

He described the bill as “a basket of targeted aid to sectors severely impacted by the double whammy of a public health and economic crisis.”

A total of P140 billion would appropriated as a standby fund to support the operations and response measures to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
