Senate to probe RFID system on Dec. 17

Public Service Committee Chairperson Senator Grace Poe is scheduled to call on Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade to respond on the ineffectiveness of the radio frequency identification (RFID) causing inconvenience to motorists at the senate investigation on Thursday, December 17.

“Unang-una, nais nating maayos ang sitwasyon para sa ating mga kababayan nang hindi naman sila napeperwisyo at nahihirapang pumila roon at nakababad ng matagal. Pangalawa, nais nating malaman ano ba ang dahilan bakit hindi maayos ang pagpapatakbo nito (First, we wish to fix the situation so that our citizens will not be inconvenienced and have a hard time lining up and waiting for a long time. Second, we wish to know the reason behind its inefficient operation),” Sen. Grace Poe disclosed.

According to the senator, it is inadequate for the DOTr to only want a cashless system without providing a well-thought-out procedure on the matter. The DOTr has rushed the cashless system despite the fact that majority of motorists do not understand the procedures.

Poe appealed to the department to temporarily suspend the full implementation of the cashless transaction due to the lack of preparation.

The DOTr’s order on the full implementation of cashless transaction by December 2020 was imposed in August. – Report from Eunice Samonte
