Several industries under GCQ resume operations on May 1

Several industries may resume operations in areas under the general community quarantine but minimum health standards will be strictly implemented, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Health (DOH).

Beginning May 1, establishments such as hardware stores, clothing and accessories stores, restaurants, and personal care services such as spas, salons and barbershops are required to avoid direct contact with their customers.

Wearing of face-shields, masks, and gloves are mandatory for employees while their tools will undergo sterilization.

Social distancing will be strictly implemented in the Finance and Legal services.

Only a maximum of 50 percent of their employees are allowed to go to work.

In the Construction sector, employers are required to give their workers a decent place to live with a complete health care facility.

Mass testing in private companies are not required. However, the DTI has pointed out that if an employee shows symptoms of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the company must immediately seek medical attention.

DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez has also estimated that half of the businesses in areas under GCQ will open this May. This will help in the recovery of the Philippine economy but not in “a big way” since “bulk operations” are in Metro Manila and Region 4.

In relation to this, the DOH has reminded the public about the “New Normal” where minimum health standards are required. – Report from Cleizl Pardilla
