Thirty-five (35) sachets of suspected Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, stuffed in full-sized “siling labuyo” were intercepted at Davao City Jail Male Dormitory.
The suspected shabu weighed around 16 grams and had an estimated street value of P256,000.00. They were stuffed inside the “siling labuyo” mixed in “humba” and chicken adobo when Jail Officer 1 Honey Queen Sedon made the discovery after conducting a thorough search.
Representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), local PNP station, Barangay Officials of Ma-a, and several media personalities were immediately called and informed about the incident for proper verification, tagging, and turnover of custody of the suspected contraband.
The suspect was identified as Richard M. Caybot, 40, and a resident of Calinan, Davao City. He brought the said items as a “paabot” to the facility. He was arrested and turned over to the Talomo Police Station.
Meanwhile, BJMP Chief Jail Director Allan Iral commended the personnel of Davao City Jail Male Dormitory for their solid and consistent efforts of guarding the gates of the facility from contrabands, particularly illegal drugs.
He also warned the families of persons deprived of liberty (PDL) not to bring contrabands to jail or engage in any illegal activities.
“Mahirap na po ang sitwasyon natin ngayon dahil sa pandemya kaya huwag na po sana kayong gumawa pa ng anumang paglabag sa batas,” Iral said.
“Hindi po kayo makakalusot dahil lalo kaming mahigpit ngayon hindi lamang dahil sa pandemya kundi alam naming mayroong ilan na magsasamantala sa sistema ng “paabot” sa aming mga pasilidad,” he added.
Since March 2020, the BJMP declared a jail lockdown and temporarily suspended contact visitations.
Only essential items such as additional medicines and special dietary requirements can be brought to the facility by the families of PDLs but will be subject to the usual searching procedures and security protocols. (PR) – bny
