Sibugay SK officials undergo governance training

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — The 3,120 newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials of this province are undergoing training on governance starting Thursday.

The training, done in batches, is mandatory under the SK Reform Law before they assume office as elected SK officials.

Fr. Noelito Salandron, Provincial Youth Development Council (PYDC) focal person, said Thursday the first batch consists of 240 SK officials from the 29 barangays of Payao town and one barangay of this municipality.

“This is the first batch out of 3,120 newly-elected SK officials from 390 barangays (of this province) to undergo mandatory training that aims to prepare them for their role as youth leaders of their respective barangays,” Salandron said.

Governor Wilter Yap Palma said the training is imperative “so that the newly-elected SK officials will know their functions to competently govern their own council.”

Salandron said they will be taught the salient features of the SK Reform Law and code of ethics for public officials, as well as parliamentary procedures, planning and budgeting, and governance.

He said the training is being conducted by the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and local government units.

The training runs until May 26. (Dennis Baguio/PNA)
