‘Silent Assassin’ captures MINPROBA title

DAVAO CITY — Samual “Silent Assassin” Salva kept his unblemished record by stopping his former stablemate and fellow undefeated  Marco John Rementizo in the first round only to capture the vacant Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (MinProBA) minimumweight title on Saturday night at the Robinson’s Place here.

After he absorbed a jab, the 20-year-old Salva started to connect his left-right combinations on Rementizo in the middle of the fight.

Salva finally landed a solid right on Rementizo’s body followed by a left hook on the face and punctuated by a right to his opponent’s chin for the knockout in 2:40 of the 5th round.

“Naluoy pud ko sa iyaha kay ako pa na siya gina tinudluan sa una sa amateur pa mi sa Cagayan de Oro,” (I also pity him because I also taught him before when we were still amateur in Cagayan de Oro) said Salva, a native of Gingoog City.

Salva improved his record to 11th straight wins with 7th knockouts and no draw or loss. It was only Rementizo’s first setback after three straight wins with two knockouts and no draw.

Rementizo made his pro debut by stopping former PABA Pan African light flyweight contender Michael Camellion (8-5-1) by a 5th round technical knockout last May 27 in Valencia City.

His next victim was Jade Yagahon by a 2nd round TKO held July 13 at the Barangay Carmen in CDO. Rementizo then beat the previous undefeated Garen Diagan (3-0) by a unanimous decision in a 6-rounder held August 30 at the Barangay Bulua covered court in CDO.

“I’m happy with Salvan’s performance tonight. He has really improved a lot on his power,” said manager Raffy Jimenez of RCJ Boxing Stable.

The Salva-Rementizo title-bout was one of the three championships promoted by lady boxing promoter Clarissa Pacana-Jimenez of RCJ Promotions.

The other championships were in the vacant Philippine female super bantamweight and Philippine Boxing Federation light flyweight titles.

The boxing card was sponsored by Mayor Celso Regencia, Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz and the members of the 16th Council Sangguniang Panlungsod of Iligan City. (Lito delos Reyes/PNA)
