Skyway Stage 3 to open before 2021

Motorists and commuters will soon experience smoother travel by year’s end as the completion rate of the 18.8-kilometer Skyway Stage 3 reached 88.72 percent, according to DPWH Chief Mark Villar.

“Nakita niyo naman traffic sa EDSA, akala natin forever. Baka hanggang December na lang (You have seen the EDSA traffic which we thought would take forever. This might only last until December),” Villar shared.

The Skyway will connect North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX). This will cut down the two-hour travel time to 15 to 20 minutes from the said points.

The completion rate of Section 1 (Buendia-Quirino-Nagtahan) of the Skyway is now at 90.67 percent, Section 2A (Nagtahan – Tomas Claudio) is at 77.23 percent, Section 2B (Tomas Claudio – Ramon Magsaysay Ave.) is at 94.39 percent, Section 3 (Ramon Magsaysay – Quezon Ave.) is at 96.86 percent, Section 4 (Quezon Ave. – Balintawak, Quezon City) is at 75.67 percent, and Section 5 (Balintawak to NLEX Footbridge) is at 83.56 percent.

The renovation of the portion of the project which was affected by a warehouse fire has already been completed. The new Skyway is set to open this December and may accommodate around 55,000 vehicles daily.
