Solon pushes for blacklisting of beauty product

PBA Party-list representative Jericho Nograles pushes for the blacklisting of the beauty product using the address “Manila, Province of China”.

According to the lawmaker, he has written a letter to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to complain about Ashley Shine Keratin Treatment Deep Repair. The address written in its packaging cannot be tolerated as a simple mistake.

Meanwhile, the Manila local government unit (LGU) has shut down the establishments in Binondo selling the said product. The Manila Bureau of Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) has issued a “closed” notice to two establishments in Binondo and two more in a mall in Divisoria. The products were also confiscated. They stated that the manufacturer of the beauty product has insulted the country.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque brushed off the issue as this is “kalokohan lang po ‘yan, hindi dapat pinapansin ‘yan dahil wala namang naniniwala na tayo’y Probinsya ng China. Ang FDA po ang magdedesisyon diyan because they have a criteria for blacklisting, I think one of those, kung may banta sa kalusugan ng mga gagamit nito (In my opinion, that is only jest. It should not be taken seriously because no one believes that we are a Province of China. The FDA will decide on this since they have the criteria for blacklisting. I think one of those is if it will harm the health of the consumer).” – Report from Patrick De Jesus
