Solon’s son is new Liga ng mga Barangays federation prexy

DUMAGUETE CITY — The 22-year old son of Rep. Arnulfo Teves Jr. of the 3rd district of Negros Oriental is the new Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Federation president.

Malabugas, Bayawan City Punong Barangay and now ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Kurt Matthew Teves, garnered 22 votes out of the 25 Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) federation presidents all over the province. He ran unopposed in Monday’s election for the new set of officers of the said association. His vice president, Tanjay City federation president Segfredo Buagas, had 21 votes. Charlito Yupo, federation president of Bacong, garnered 22 votes as auditor.

The board of directors, who also ran unopposed, were Chona Agustino of Ayungon, Dionie Amores of Dumaguete City, Edgar Teves, Jr. of Valencia, Jonah Pat Aviles of Zamboanguita, Lucille Credo of Dauin and Teogenes Banaybanay of Sibulan.

In an interview, Rep. Teves said history repeats itself as this was his position before he was elected congressman and had also ran unopposed during his time.

He told his son Kurt to be at par with what he did or to do better than him, as he expressed disappointment with the negative campaign strategies against his son for being too young to lead the provincial federation of barangay captains.

He said the new Liga provincial federation president is very good in governance and also in business.

The younger Teves said he would try to do his best as the Liga’s head, and promised to consult with the officers for projects they would want to implement.

“Kon unsay mga proyekto among sabotan, kay dili ko gusto sa taphaw og binuang nga mga proyekto, kanang moigo gyud sa tawo (Whatever projects would be agreed upon, the ones that are appropriate for the people),” he said.

When asked to comment about his age being the head of the barangay captains, Kurt said it is “just a number”.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo congratulated the winners in the Liga elections and expressed hope they are driven by the desire to help and cooperate with the provincial government’s efforts towards development.

Vice Gov. Eduard Mark Macias said he looks forward to working with the winners. (Juancho Gallarde/PNA)
