Southwest monsoon to bring rain over northern, central Luzon

MANILA—The southwest monsoon will bring rains in some parts of northern and central Luzon on Friday, as tropical depression “Luis” moves northeast.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 4 a.m. forecast that a low pressure area (LPA) was seen 1,205 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.

“Luis”, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday, was last observed at 430 kilometers northwest of Basco, Batanes – with maximum sustained winds of 40 kph – and is moving northeast at 15 kph. It is not expected to directly affect any part of the country, PAGASA said.

Due to the southwest monsoon, Ilocos and Cordillera regions, Zambales, Bataan, Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands will experience light to moderate rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms .
