Southwest monsoon to bring scattered rain showers over Luzon

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – Most parts of the country will experience fair weather as Typhoon “Hinnamnor” continues to move away from the country but the southwest monsoon (habagat) will bring scattered rain showers over Luzon, the weather bureau said Monday, Sept. 5.

Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan will experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

In its 4 a.m. weather advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said flash floods or landslides are likely in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said fair and sunny weather will prevail over the rest of Luzon. Isolated rains due to thunderstorms will still be experienced.

Temperature in Tuguegarao could reach 35 °C; up to 33 °C in Legazpi and Kalayaan Islands; up to 32°C in Puerto Princesa and Metro Manila.

The Visayas and Mindanao will also experience fair weather, Aurelio said. Isolated rains in the afternoon or evening is expected.

Temperature in Cebu could reach 34 °C; up to 33 °C in Tacloban and Zamboanga. Up to 32 °C is forecast in Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Davao.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over extreme Northern Luzon.

Rough to very rough seas will be experienced over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon (Batanes And Babuyan Islands). Fishing boats and other small seagoing vessels are advised not to venture out into the sea, while larger vessels are alerted against big waves.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) – bny
