SP hails Pangasinan’s 3rd place finish in Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on Monday passed a resolution congratulating the province’s athletes for placing third in the Batang Pinoy 2017-Luzon Qualifying Leg held in Vigan City from October 21 to 28.

The resolution read by Second District Board Member Nestor Reyes, SP majority floor leader, during the provincial board session hailed the 222 members of Team Pangasinan who saw action in that week-long athletic event, participated in by 84 local government units (LGUs) throughout Luzon.

Pangasinan amassed 33 gold, 28 silver and 24 bronze medals to take third place. It was only one gold shy of the second place won by Laguna which garnered 34 gold, 20 silver and 26 bronze medals.

Baguio City was the run-away winner with 49 gold, 45 silver, and 44 bronze medals.

Pangasinan bagged gold medals in Sepak Takraw (Girls Doubles); Sepak Takraw (Boys Doubles); Tennis (Boys Team Event); Taekwondo (Individual Junior Male); Taekwondo (Junior Mixed Pair); Taekwondo (Kyorugi Cadet Boys Advance-Feather);  Karatedo (Advance Kata Boys 14-15 years old); Karatedo (Boys Kumite 14-15 years old, 52 kg.); Karatedo (Boys Kumite 14-15, 70kg.); Karatedo (Boys Kumite 8-13 years old, 45kg.); Basketball (Boys Division) and Basketball (Girls Division).

The province’s girls division team dominated in Arnis (13-15 years-old Anyo Double Weapon); Arnis (Girls Team 9-10 years old Anyo Single Weapon); Arnis (Girls Team 13-15 years old Anyo Single Weapon); Arnis (Girls Team 9-10 years old Anyo Sword and Dagger); Arnis (Girls-Full Contact, 9-10 years old, 30kg and below) and Arnis (Girls-Middle Weight, 13-15 years old).

Arnis (Boys- 9-10 years old, 35 kg and below); Arnis (Team Girls 13-15 years old Anyo Double Weapon); Arnis (Team Girls 9-10 years old Anyo Single Weapon); Arnis (Team Girls 13-15 years old Anyo Single Weapon); Arnis (Team Girls 9-10 years old Anyo Sword and Dagger); Arnis (Team Girls 13-15 years old Anyo Sword and Dagger); Archery (Qualification Round-Club Girls 40M);

Team Pangasinan likewise bagged the gold in (2000M Steeplechase Girls); Lawn Tennis (Girls-Doubles); Lawn Tennis (Boys-Singles); Lawn Tennis (Boys-Doubles); Table Tennis (Mini-Cadet Boys Singles-13U); Athletics (Long Jump-Girls) Boxing (Paper Weight-42 kg.); Boxing (Feather Weight-57 kg.)

In this year’s qualifying leg, the number of Pangasinan athletes who competed in different fields are as follows: Archery — eight; Arnis — 25; Athletics — 28; Badminton — eight; Basketball — 29; Boxing — nine; Chess — 12; Karatedo –15; Tennis (lawn) eight; Sepak Takraw — 10; Swimming — 20; Table Tennis — six, Taekwondo — 20; and Volleyball (indoor) — 24.
