SPD seeks understanding over lockdown due to Xi visit

MANILA — The Southern Police District (SPD) on Wednesday appealed to motorists for understanding as some roads in Taguig City were closed due to the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“We are appealing to the general public for their utmost understanding, exercise patience and leniency for the inconvenience,” SPD spokesperson Supt. Jenny Tecson said in a Viber message sent to reporters.

The Chinese leader reportedly stayed at a hotel in Bonifacio Global City, prompting authorities to implement a lockdown on roads heading to the posh business district, such as Bayani Road, McKinley Road and Lawton Ave.

Xi arrived in the country on Tuesday for his two-day state visit.

Earlier on Wednesday, Xi met with House of Representatives Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Senate President Vicente Sotto III and the leaders of the Filipino-Chinese community.

The Chinese leader left the Philippines shortly before 2 p.m..
