Squabble over fraternity triggers shooting incident in San Pedro City

SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna – A heated argument between an uncle and nephew over joining a fraternity led to a shooting incident that left the uncle wounded at the Southville 3A in Barangay San Antonio on Wednesday evening.

Laguna police chief public information officer Senior Inspector Gerry Sangalang told PNA on Thursday that the shooting victim Jomardela Cruz Aragon, 29 year-old welder, was having a drinking spree with friends around 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday when he scolded his nephew who has joined a fraternity.

Sangalang said that as the heated argument ensued between Aragon and his nephew, neighbor Mike Bibon Blando, 24, passed by and meddled in the squabble between the two.

This fueled the argument further as Blando allegedly uttered threatening words and left the group. Minutes later, Blando returned wielding a short firearm and suddenly shot Aragon on the back and abdomen.

San Pedro police, assisted by the barangay tanods (village peace and security officers) responded and subsequently arrested Blando.

Police confiscated a caliber .38 revolver, with two live ammunition and a fired case cartridge from the suspect. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
