Sri Lanka to build 2,000 housing units for low-income families

COLOMBO — Sri Lankan government will provide 2,000 new housing units for low-income families, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has said.

In a message marking the World Habitat Day which falls on the first Monday of October, the president said that Sri Lanka needs to achieve sustainable development goals and the country must build a society where people can live happily in their own home.

“To make this plan a reality, the government will start construction of 2,000 housing units for low-income families. The project will not only benefit the urban areas but will also benefit the semi-urban populations,” Wickremesinghe said.

The president said that the low-income families should be provided with the housing units after being consulted on their needs. – gb
