Personnel of the Social Security System (SSS) paid a visit to some delinquent employers in Manila that have failed to remit contributions of their employees as it resumes Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) operations.
The visit is to remind employers of their obligation to settle their dues, including the May 19 deadline for the application for Pandemic Relief and Restructuring Program (PRRP) 2.
“These employers were found to be delinquent in the payment of contributions even prior to the pandemic. As a general rule, we have given them 15 calendar days from the date of the SSS’ visit to settle their obligations,” President and CEO Michael Regino said in a news release.
The SSS said the first operation subjected “10 non-compliant employers” in Manila with combined contribution delinquencies of about P26.26 million from P9.12 million past-due contributions and P17.14 million penalties which affect 95 SSS members.
Based on SSS data, more than 2,000 employers have been recorded as delinquent last year in its National Capital Region West Division composed of the cities of Manila and Pasay.
The same activity was conducted by the SSS in Cagayan de Oro where six establishments were visited and were handed written notices.
The remittance of SSS contributions by employers is used to pay for the benefits of members, such as sickness and maternity benefits.
“Once we receive the payment of the principal, the amount of contribution of the employees will be posted in the account of the member, thus ‘pag kumuha po tayo ng benepisyo it will be included na in the computation of benefits,” Public Affairs and Special Events Division acting head Fernando Nicolas said.
An SSS member cannot avail of any benefits from the insurer if his or her contributions are not current.
Nicolas urged members to be vigilant, to check their records, and report if their contributions are not updated or current. – Report from Rod Lagusad/AG
