SSS to rush release of checks for claims, loans

MANILA – The state-run private pension fund Social Security System (SSS) on Saturday announced that it will release all delayed checks for loans and claims to concerned members within one to two weeks.

In a television interview, SSS Media Affairs head, Ma. Louisa Sebastian, said their check printer that malfunctioned had already been fixed on Friday night.

“We are saddened by this issue. It’s the first time that SSS had a check printer malfunction. We’re requesting for further understanding from our members,” Sebastian said in Filipino, expressing hope that the problem would not happen again.

Learning from the experience, the SSS is studying its system for possible improvement to prevent such problem from recurring, she said.

Sebastian advised concerned members to contact the SSS member relations office for queries they might have.

The check printer malfunction on Friday led to a delay in the release of checks for salary loans, death, disability, retirement, sickness and maternity benefits to some 106,950 members and beneficiaries.

The highly-specialized check printer uses a special ink that keeps the checks from being easily duplicated or falsified. (Ma. Teresa Montemayor/PNA)
