State U inaugurates P28-M S&T Hub in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The government-run Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) on Friday inaugurated a PHP28-million Science and Technology Hub, the first of its kind in Region 9.

Dr. Milabel Ho, WMSU president, told the Philippine News Agency that the hub was aimed to boost science and technology studies.

Ho said it will be used by the university faculty and students for research to enhance creativity and innovation in science and technology.

The hub will house the following: internet ready computer laboratories with e-library; analytical services and pure science research unit; food innovation unit; forensic laboratory; engineering research unit; and, architecture unit.

Ho said the analytical services and pure science research unit will provide the site and resources for advance scientific research of faculty for analytical and microbiological testing.

She said the hub’s laboratory will be composed of 10 divisions and these are as follows: chromatography; mass spectroscopy; spectroscopy; electrochemistry; thermal; atomic spectroscopy; cold room; wet laboratory; microbiology; and, chemical storage.

She said the hub will be opened by summer. It will be fully operations by next school year.

She added that the construction of the hub was funded by the national government.
