Statement of Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on the 159th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal

We join the nation in celebrating the 159th birth anniversary of our esteemed national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

Throughout his life, Dr. Rizal has strongly displayed his nationalism and patriotism which thave greatly contributed to our forefathers’ pursuit of justice, freedom, and independence against our colonizers.

Today, as we face the threat of an unseen enemy in this pandemic, like Dr. Jose Rizal, may we utilize our intelligence in our fight against COVID-19 and may we find the strength of heart to continue on our path to recovery from challenge.

Let us all continue to be inspired by the legacy left by Dr. Jose Rizal. His brilliance, compassion, bravery, peaceful resistance, and above all, his selfless and wholehearted service to our country.

May we heed his words to be an example to others, to encourage others who may be hesitating to take the first step to pursue their goals. We can do this by having the initiative to take action. One can only realize the great deeds one is capable of, if he or she responds to the call to do good and to serve, despite the odds.
