Student missing while swimming in Lingayen

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan–A vacationing student from Manila is missing and believed drowned aftwr he went swimming near Lingayen beach Friday morning, the Lingayen police reported Saturday.

The victim, Leonardo Franco, 20, of Quezon City, was dragged by strong undercurrent to the deeper portion of the sea along with Raily Bacud, 13, a Grace V, pupil, and no longer surfaced from the water.

Bacud was however immediately rescued by a fisherman, Danilo Sison, 31, of Maniboc, Lingayen.

The incident occurred when the two, together with Leonil Arnas, 17, and Venerson Arellano, 14, went to the beach to swim a day after “Undas”.

Joint personnel of the Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Lingayen Disaster RiskmResuction and Management Office are now combing the Lingayen Gulf in search of the victim. Leonardo Micua (PNA)
