Three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Charly Suarez is bent on keeping his unblemished record in a 10-round super featherweight non-title fight against Palawan City native boxer Lorence Rosas.
The match is slated for April 24 in Paniqui, Tarlac.
This is Suarez’s second professional fight this year after a long hiatus due to the pandemic.
In an interview with PTV Sports, Suarez’s manager and trainer, Delfin Boholst, admitted that while his fighter showed a good performance in his last bout, his next contender should not be underestimated.
“‘Yong kalaban ni Charly, nakita ko ‘yong mga unang laban niya sa pro. Hindi rin natin sabihin na pipitsuging boksingero kasi nagte-training din siya. At saka nagsisikap din na manalo (I have seen the pro matches of Charly’s opponent. We cannot say that he is just any other boxer because he has been training. And he is also striving to win),” Boholst said.
Boholst revealed that they are coming up with a style to counter veteran southpaw Rosas.
“Mayroon kaming bagong ginagawa ni Charly na inaaral na movement ngayon, so sana magawa namin ‘to during sa laban [Charly and I are working on a movement and we hope to execute this in the fight]… Kasi ‘yong kalaban namin ni Charly, kaliwete siya. So inaaral talaga namin lahat ng sparring [Charly’s opponent is a lefty. So we are studying all the sparring]….. Excited itong darating na April 24, kasi ‘yong ginagawa namin na preparation namin, sana pagdating sa laban mailabas namin. Kasi yun nga, pinag-aralan talaga namin [We are excited for April 24 because of the preparations we have been doing, which we hope to use in the match. We really studied hard for this],” Boholst shared.
The Suarez camp is now in Tarlac where Charly will continue training until the day of the stint. –Report by Paolo Salamatin/ JBB
