Summit set to raise public knowledge of Data Privacy Act

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), is holding a one-day Data Privacy Summit in this city to ensure public knowledge of the Data Privacy Act (DPA).

DICT Assistant Regional Director Guilbert Simene said the summit, to be held Thursday, also aims to provide the participants a deeper understanding of the DPA, the requirements of the National Privacy Commission (NPC) for compliance, and how they can build a culture of privacy in their workplace.

Invited to join the Data Privacy Summit are personnel of local government units, national government agencies, and selected private institutions.

Simene said NPC Commissioner Raymond Liboro will grace the one-day summit, which will discuss creating a privacy management plan with privacy impact assessment, breach management, and building a privacy resilient workplace and data sharing agreement.

There will be also be an overview of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and the five pillars of accountability and compliance. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr./PNA)
