CAMP PANTALEON GARCIA, Imus City — A case of double-murder was filed against the suspect in the killing of a seaman’s wife Ruby Benalla Gamos and daughter Shaina Nicole, who were found in advanced stage of decomposition in their residence in Lancaster Subdivision, Barangay Navarro in General Trias City, Cavite on Dec.11.

As of press time, the Cavite provincial police office took custody of the suspect , who confessed to the killing of the victims and fled to Samar province where he was arrested by joint police operatives.

Suspect Ruel Cabatingan, 36 was flown in from Samar and directly turned over to the Cavite provincial police headquarters in this city and was presented during a media conference by Police Regional Office (PRO4A-CALABARZON) Director Chief Supt. Ma. O R. Aplasca.

Ruby’s husband Marlon Gamos has already filed a case of murder against the suspect before the Imus Prosecutors Office which was docketed under IS No. Iv-03-inv-12L-4481.

Investigation by the joint elements of the Cavite Provincial Intelligence Branch, General Trias Police Station and Cavite Criminal Investigation Group (CIDG led to the immediate identification of the suspect, an alleged lover of Ruby Gamos.

According to Cavite Provincial Legal Chief lawyer Arvie Bueno, the suspect has no lawyer yet, but said they are in contact with the Provincial Attorney’s Office (PAO) for legal assistance.

“If the suspect has no lawyer, he might be released temporarily. But he is under custody and jurisdiction of the authorities now, because he voluntarily surrendered and there was no hot pursuit involved,” Bueno added.

Initial evidence gathered that the victim Ruby Gamos was raped before she was killed by the suspect based on the sperm and urine of the suspect that was recovered at the scene, while the Gamos daughter was suffocated using a pillow.

Ruby’s husband said he has forgiven his wife for what might have transpired between her and the alleged extra-marital affairs she has committed.  But, Marlon expects justice to be served for his wife and daughter and that the full force of the law should be applied to suspect Cabatingan.

It was also gathered that the suspect and Ruby were schoolmates in high school.

Police investigation also revealed that the suspect left the crime scene carting away the victim’s personal belongings including a television and a red Toyota Wigo as the getaway car, which was later recovered by the Cavite cops abandoned in front of the Rita Samson Memorial Cemetery in Barangay Alapan 2A in this city.

Cavite Police Provincial Director Supt. William Segun, who formed and activated a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) has tracked down the suspect with joint police operatives in Samar during the manhunt operations.

Segun also assured the families of the victims that the Cavite police force will exert all possible efforts for immediate solution of the case.

Further police probe also disclosed that the suspect and Ruby were renting a house in Barangay Alapan in Imus City where they had a living-in arrangement together with Gamos daughter Shaina Nicole from January to June 2017.

Recently, the suspect was also seen by the victim’s neighbors staying in their house in Lancaster Subdivision, Cavite, where the SOCO Team also recovered pieces of evidence from the crime scene which are now undergoing laboratory examination. (Rogelio Limpin/PNA)
