SWS: 42% of Pinoys say ROTC should be optional

Around 42% of adult Filipinos said the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program should be optional, according to a recent survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Based on the March 26 to 29 survey, the 42% said students should be able to choose between this program or render community service.

The survey also found out that 35% said the program should be made mandatory for Grade 11 and Grade 12 students.

Around 22%, meanwhile, are against ROTC’s inclusion in the curriculum of students.

The percentage of those who said ROTC should be optional is highest in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon at 46% and 47%, respectively. They are followed by Mindanao at 42% and Visayas at 28%.

The rate of those who want ROTC to be mandatory is highest in Visayas at 46%.

The survey was conducted among 1,200 adults through face-to-face interviews. – cf
