Taal emits smoke after alert level 2 declared

Taal volcano has once again emitted smoke two weeks after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) set the alert level to number 2.

The main crater of the volcano has emitted smoke at a height of 200-300 meters, but PHIVOLCS reminded the public to not be alarmed.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Science Research Specialist Eric Arconado, the steam comes from the water in the main crater of the volcano.

Arconado said there are no huge cracks on the land nor movement of the magma underground.

Alert level number 2 remains.

The President has declared Region 4 (CALABARZON) under a state of calamity which will last for a whole year.
