ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) has named Mayor Jimuel Que of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, as Outstanding Mayor in Mindanao during the 1st Mindanao Governance and Leadership Excellence Award 2019 last March 7.

Que has been chosen for his “outstanding and passionate leadership, youthful dynamism and consistency in governance” as mayor of Bongao, capital of Tawi-Tawi province.

The organizers of the award said that Que, with his good leadership, has managed to reduce the poverty incidence in Bongao through an improved economic and trade center, coupled with health and education programs.

The organizers noted that the town residents are grateful to Que for his untiring leadership and good governance.

Last year, Que also received the Seal of Good Governance and the Civil Service Commission Pagasa Award for strengthening the ecological solid waste management program of Bongao.

The 1st Mindanao Governance and Leadership Excellence Award 2019 is a joint undertaking of the PVB and the Cagayan de Oro City-based Mindanao Daily newspaper.

The award organizers also named Dr. Sangkula Laja as most outstanding health official in Mindanao for his consistency in good governance.

The organizers said Laja, who is from the Integrated Provincial Health Office, has shown remarkable leadership and compassion to the needy and the passion to serve the people of the province.

Laja spearheaded the rehabilitation of health facilities in the province, making them fully functional, allowing patients and the people of Tawi-Tawi to have access to quality health care.

The awarding ceremony of the 1st Mindanao Governance and Leadership Excellence Award 2019 was held in a prestigious hotel in Cagayan del Oro City.
