Tayabas mayor reviews job status of city workers

TAYABAS CITY, Quezon — City Mayor Ernida A. Reynoso is personally reviewing and scrutinizing the applications of Job Orders (JOs) to ensure their enlistment in the city government workforce are genuine and avoid the so-called ghost employees.

Reynoso vowed on Friday for a clean governance that include workers who deserve to be paid from the people’s taxes and not those 15-30, or ghost employees who only get their pay during pay day schedules every 15th and 30th of the month, without working.

To do this, the city mayor personally conducts actual interaction and acquaintance with each JO personnel and their particular assignment or work area and vowed she will not sign any renewal of their contracts without such acquaintance.

The city chief executive’s action stemmed from previous reports and findings that there were JOs who get paid without working and those who were working in their farms and yet their names are listed in the city hall’s payroll.

Reynoso explained that these malpractice and corrupt acts are a waste of taxpayer’s money and that the city government is bound to lose more than PHP300 in daily pay for every ghost employee in the city hall’s registry of bogus JO personnel.

Meanwhile, around 700 genuine job order personnel expressed elation to the Mayor’s “hands-on scrutiny” that protects their ranks of honest-to-goodness city hall workers and for the Chief Executive’s approval on their renewed contracts of services. (Gideon Belen/PNA)
