Team Philippines finishes 2nd Runner-up in 8th ASEAN quiz

BALI, Indonesia – Three young students comprising Team Philippines
garnered 2nd Runner-Up honors at the recently concluded 8th ASEAN
Regional Quiz at the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel in Bali, Indonesia.

Finishing third in a field of 10 youth teams from the ten ASEAN Member
States, Jericho Villarico, from Baguio City National High School, Wynkqui
Anne Cruz from Rizal High School and Kim Eric Delicano from Davao del Sur
School of Fisheries took home a trophy and a cash prize of USD900 behind
Team Lao PDR (1 st Runner-Up) and Team Indonesia (Champion).

The intense 3-level competition was held on December 5, afterwhich all
participants were treated to a cultural night of music and dance. They were
also given an immersive tour of Bajra Sandhi Monument, Pandawa Beach
and the Uluwatu Temple.

Staged every two years and hosted by the different ASEAN countries on
voluntary rotation, the ASEAN Quiz brings together high school students from
around the Region in a friendly competition that deepens their understanding
of ASEAN and engages their active participation as stakeholders in the
ASEAN Community. ASEAN Member States conduct national level
competitions to select three students who will compete in the biennial regional
quiz.

In the Philippines, PTV, as the project implementing agency works together
with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Education, Philippine
Information Agency and the Philippine Broadcasting Service to stage the
national quiz.
